• Modern varnishes can be cleaned with a mild detergent on a soft, damp cloth. Gently rub, wipe and dry. If necessary, use a good
• quality furniture oil SPARINGLY to revive dry or tired-looking wooden surfaces.
• The bottom and back of cabinets, dressers, sideboards, etc. are usually the best place to check for the tell-tale signs of beetle borer. Treat
• any infestation as soon as possible.
• Do not use linseed oil on garden furniture or exterior door and window surfaces. The sun will heat the oil and destroy the coating.
• Regular painting (or double-varnishing) the top and bottom of exterior doors and shutters will add years to their lifetime.
• Do not use glazing putty on bare wood, rather apply a coat of sealer before glazing.
